Who's who in the last two? | April 16, 2025

We've traversed the last fortnight worth of sounds from Central Coast and Australian music to deliver you the single greatest piece of music literature ever written. Feast your eyes (and ears).

Mavs, ASHA - Numb

This release is absolutely an example of a collaboration you didn't know you needed. In a move we'd love to see repeated, singer songwriter ASHA has teamed up with producer Mavs for Numb.

Numb manages to pack a whole lot into just under two minutes. The track builds out of a few notes from a synth before ASHA's vocals come in, introducing us to a far more electronic sound than we're used to from the Central Coast artist. This one serves as a great introduction to Mavs, who manages to wrap Numb in an ambient and hazy-in-the-best-way soundscape. It's a really nice listen.

No word on any live performances from from either artist right now, but jump on the socials of both ASHA and Mavs for everything they've got brewing.

Evie Irie - Mercedes Medicated

Evie Irie has continued her triumphant return to releasing with her second single of 2025, Mercedes Medicated. We had a great conversation with Evie Irie in November last year, right as she was preparing to get back into the swing of things artistically. Each release since then has showed us she is most definitely back.

Mercedes Medicated is a high energy, anthemic dive into Evie's experiences trying to make sense of adolescence and young adulthood, “Mercedes Medicated was written at a time of my life where I had A LOT of existential angst, I struggled with depression and anxiety in my late teens and this song embodies exactly how I was feeling towards the world, myself and my relationships at that time”, Evie Irie said of this release.

There's no shows on the horizon for Evie Irie right now, but we know for a fact that she's itching to get back on stage. Keep up with her socials in the meantime for new releases and the inevitable tour dates.

Solo Career - Venus on speed dial

It's been almost four years since Solo Career (aka Annabel Blackman) caught our attention with her fantastic debut EP The Sentimentalist. The South Coast solo artist presumably got pretty busy writing, recording and touring with Body Type in the years afterwards. Now, Solo Career has delighted us all with the release of Venus on speed dial and an accompanying album (or Maxi-EP) announcement.

Venus on speed dial is driven by fuzzy guitar and fluttering synth, with Blackman wrangling with the impacts of crushing on someone so hard that you lose yourself in the process. It's a moody and kinda dark listen that will have you coming back again and again.

This single also came to us with the news that Solo Career will be dropping a nine-track release via Poison City Records in July. It'll be called Interior Delirium and Solo Career hasn't yet decided whether it's gonna be a mini album or a max EP just yet. For news on that decision and more, make sure you're across her socials.

Chelsea Berman - Crush

Central Coast pop country artist Chelsea Berman has gifted us her latest release Crush. This one is an incredibly catchy dive into the idea of having a crush on your exes new girlfriend. The release of Crush may well serve as a coming out of sorts for Chelsea Berman, who says that the journey of this single began with doubt and has ended with overwhelming support. We love to see it.

Crush was written with Jake Davies and Jakob Miller while Chelsea Berman was last in Nashville, meaning she had the opportunity to perform and refine the single at various writers rounds across the city. Chelsea has also teased that this single is the start of "a very exciting project".

If you wanna catch Chelsea Berman live, you can either do that in Paterson, NSW on May 3rd or fly to Switzerland where she'll be playing at Rock Meets Country festival in September. To assess your options, head to her website.

Sugar Soap - Time to Come Alive

In case you missed our web premiere of this one last week, Sugar Soap have burst into 2025 withTime to Come Alive. The band have been riding some well-deserved momentum after dropping singlesTalk and Life Uptown towards the end of last year, and this release builds on that buzz perfectly.

Time to Come Alive is bright, sun-soaked and catchy. The track sees Sugar Soap absolutely nailing the dreamy indie pop sounds they've been brewing up recently, and cements their place as a Central Coast band you should absolutely be keeping eyes and ears on right now.

There's no word on Sugar Soap live shows at the minute, but the band have been hitting stages quite a bit recently. It's a safe bet there's something coming, so keep up with them via their insta for updates.
