Who's who in the last two? | April 2, 2025

New music, and even a new artist! Intrigued? Read on!

Stella Hannagan - I Think It's Just My Brain

Central Coast local and now Melbourne-based musician Stella Hannagan has just released her second single following on from 'My House' released earlier this year.

Sticking to her acoustic songwriter routes, 'I Think It' s Just My Brain' is a beautifully emotional track about struggle. Stella says the song was "born from a lot of pain and I hope listening can, in some way, lessen your own."

We've been aware of Stella's talents for at least four years now, but she's only recently started to release her music. She's an artist who is aware of her strengths and uses them well, and we know we can expect more music shortly (shhh).

If you're enjoying this one or you're a fan of Stella's, make sure you're subscribed to our podcast because we'll be uploading an episode with Stella on Monday!

Old Mervs - Parched

WA duo Old Mervs have treated us to a cracking debut album, and we've hand-picked 'Parched' to shine the light on.

Parched is very 00's inspired, and boy, isn't nostalgia is a hell of a drug?

Sounding all parts Semisonic, The Fray, and just about everything in between, I've been really loving this offering from Old Mervs.

Dave from the band explained to Homebrewed in a recent podcast how the mixing of the album focused on having the vocals forward, something they hadn't experimented with before. I believe this move has definitely proven the right one.

Old Merv's are heading on tour, check out their dates here.

Ghost Care - LCD

WA three-piece Ghost Care are back again, following January’s ‘Better Off’, Ghost Care are keeping the vibes up with ‘LCD’

If you're a fan of Ball Park Music, Spacey Jane, or San Cisco, keep reading!

The song’s main sentiment – ‘When are you gonna get out of your own head?’ – rings loud and clear; a plea to the self which feels so personal, and yet easy to identify with on such a universal level. The single explores the never-ending internal battle between giving up and pushing forward; the pull to resign yourself to the blues, and the bright moments of hope that keep you running in spite of them.

On the personal meaning behind the track, the band explained, "this song is about the battle between the voice that tells you everything sucks and the one that pushes you forward. It came from my own deep lows—feeling stuck, frustrated, and like there was no way out. But then came the wake-up moment. The spark. The shift. This song is that feeling.”

Shanarah - breathe

Well hello, new artist!

Shanarah is a fresh artist hailing from the Central Coast, and her debut single 'breathe' is a cracking one to announce yourself with!

'breathe' is a perfect track if you love juxtapositions. It's all parts moody, but calm; simple, but layered; beautiful, but a tad haunting.

While Shanarah’s career is only young, she already boasts achievements such as opening the main stage at Rolling Sets Music Festival 2023.

The track was entirely produced on the Central Coast with local legends Owen Butterworth and Tom Josephs at The Grove Studios.

We're excited to see where Shanarah takes us with her next track!

Bel Kil - Wasted Emotion

If you're a fan of D.I.Y music, then this is your jam!

Melbourne musician Bel Kil has dropped her sophomore EP, and every track was written, recorded, and produced by Bel Kil hersefl!

The entire EP is an emotional roller coaster, but we're focusing on the title track for the purposes of this article. It uncovers the bittersweet nature of growing up, framed as something of a love letter to the self. The song offers comfort, advice, encouragement, and an overall sense of understanding to its narrator’s past self.

On the EP, Bel Kil says "when you create every part yourself, it’s hard to step back and hear it with fresh ears. You know every detail and have heard it repeatedly, making it tough to decipher what’s essential or how the song truly feels when you already know what’s coming. I’d love the superpower to wipe my mind of the song and experience it emotionally for the first time.”
